Cataract Surgery

Denver, Boulder - Colorado

When considering cataract surgery, a patient's top priority should be a top cataract surgeon who will put their vision needs first.

Cataract surgery is a vision correction procedure that is widely performed across the world. As the only effective alternative for solving cataract-related vision problems, cataract surgery is extremely common and has evolved greatly over the years.

The technology utilized with this procedure is unparalelled, and patients have more flexibility with lens implants than ever before. With a fast and relatively painless procedure, vision problems related to cataracts can be instantly eliminated.

During cataract surgery, the eye's natural cloudy lens is carefully removed through a tiny incision in the cornea. The lens is then replaced with a state-of-the-art lens replacement called an Intraocular Lens (IOL) that is designed to take over the duties of the eye's natural lens.

Cataracts can be vision threatening, but not in all cases. Dr. Lewis presents candidates with modern and safe cataract surgery options, including which type of implant to choose. Rest assured, Dr. Lewis will also let a patient know when surgery is not really necessary. However, some patients choose to have early cataracts removed just to rid themselves of the annoyance of diminished, foggy or doubled vision. Technologically advanced lens options include Crystalens ™, ReSTOR, and Tecnis ™. These IOLs are specially designed to achieve a host of vision goals, such as focusing between near and far distances and blocking UV light from damaging the retina.

Tecnis ™ Lens

This multi-focal IOL uses a patented optic design to give the patient bifocal benefits, providing clear vision for all distances without mechanical movement of the lens. It is the only second generation multifocal IOL approved by the FDA.

ReSTOR Lens

This innovative lens allows patients to see clearly at all distances with a technology called "diffractive optics." This lens provides excellent vision both at distance and near but is weaker at intermediate distances.

Crystalens ™

This flexible hinged lens theoretically allows patients to accommodate seamlessly between near, far and middle distances. The strength of this lens is its ability to correct distance and intermediate vision.
