Brand new eyes!
Dr. Lewis' office was very helpful as I lined up my financing and got all of my appointments scheduled. The next month was full of anticipation as I grew tired of wearing my glasses and increasingly excited to live without them!
The office staff and Dr. Lewis were so wonderful throughout the process; I can't stress enough how confident I felt with their services. They are always great with questions and cordial during every phone call and office visit. Because of my confidence in the team, I was only a little nervous for the procedure. Instead, I was so excited that I was going to change my life drastically!
I now enjoy 20/15 vision and I'm loving every minute of it. With a toddler, I can jump up in the middle of the night or early in the morning without having to worry about glasses or contact lenses. Even getting ready for bed at night WITHOUT having to take out my contacts feels like time I've won back.
I would highly recommend Lasik and Dr. Lewis to anyone. I also recommend doing it as soon as possible; it's that many more days, months and years to enjoy your vision.
Thanks, Dr. Lewis, and all of your staff - you have another satisfied patient!
Cheers,
Alicia Hassinger

Update on ReStor Lens & Cataract Surgey
12 10 09 - Update: It has been nearly a month since the 2nd surgery. Everything is doing fine. My vision is as good as it was as a youth and the clarity/definition of images is amazingly sharp. I'm glad I did it.

Mulitfocal lens replacement
I have had no side effects of any kind, such as the "halo" effect around lights at night. I am extremely pleased with the results and would highly reccomend it to anyone considering vision improvement.

Results of LASIK Surgery from the Past
I really appreciate that you were able to do laser surgery on my eyes several years after I had had it done the first time years ago. I know it took great expertise to do the second surgery, but without it I would have had to wear glasses all the time (my eyes had deteriorated).
My eyesight has been excellent since the second surgery. Thanks for simplifying my life.
Sincerely,
Joanne Sanfilippo

My Journey
I proceeded to have my two day "pity party" and decided to handle this situation as I always do. Hope for the best and plan for the worst. I figured worse case scenario was I would be blinded as my mother had been and I would never be able to move to Denver to be with my son and granddaughter (both had been urging me for some time).
Having visited Denver many times, my favorite area is Cherry Creek. So I checked out ophthamologists in that area and found Dr. Lewis (my angels were definitely working the internet for me). I called and made an appointment, moved, found an apartment...all within 3 weeks. After receiving the keys to my apartment I had one week before my movers would arrive. I checked out Dr. Lewis' office...only 4 blocks from my apartment.
Sitting in his office I noticed the plaque stating he was voted one of the top ten doctors in CO. Was I blessed or what?
I had my surgery yesterday. Although I was extremely nervous, the entire staff embraced me both emotionally and physically (lots of hugs). The last thing I remember is the anesthesiologist saying this may sting a little as she was putting a shot in my IV. The next thing I remember is the doctor putting tape over my bandage.
I had no discomfort or pain last night. This morning I went to Dr. Lewis for my post op visit.
My eyesight is 20/20, and my pressure is perfect.
I cannot believe after all my scary thoughts that I have been so blessed.
Thank you Dr. Lewis and your wonderful staff.

Cataract surgery results
I was able to select the multi-focal vision lens which has had resoundingly successful results. I finally had one of those hallowed "I can see" moments as the patch came off first the right eye and a week later, the left. After the first surgery, I could thread my needles in a millisecond as I had done before the eyes deteriorated. Now, I'm up to my previous speed of work, up to my newly restored eyes in backed up paperwork, and diligently attacking my weeds and housekeeping that got the upper hand when I couldn't see.
Dr. Lewis advised that my case was difficult as he had to factor the prior Lasik surgery into the game. I also have dry eye issues and being a Type II diabetic, blood sugar issues. He spent extra time doing the calculations to get the lens' strength correct, did the astigmatism procedure and apparently threw in an ultraviolet shield behind the new implants. Whew.
The right eye was the first to go under the "knife". I was nervous with anticipation but not apprehension. The procedure is stunningly easy on the patient with the conscious sedation and quick recovery, though there is recovery needed. Extra sleep, easy going activities and proper nutrition are all good insurance policies. I, however, needed to do fittings immediately, but I was as cautious as possible. The patch came off by 8:05 the next day and I squealed with delight as soon as I could read the 20/25 line.
I could read every street sign on the way home. (Imagine: I was using field binoculars to read street signs before my friends grounded me in the month prior to the surgery). When I arrived home and saw my roses, my pansies, my weeds!, my housekeeping!.......it was a Helen Keller moment.
Now, for some reason, the night before the second surgery, the newly corrected right eye started to blur and has been doing it on and off since then. I'm now 3.5 weeks out from that surgery. So, I'll address it at the one month check up.
There is healing time needed. The clarity of vision makes you want to ignore the lifting warnings, etc. I find each day different, and often it depends on my blood sugars. Sometimes, though, when all is stable, I still experience little light shows on the sides. And my eyes have felt like I have contact lenses in them . And at night, I get the dry eye thing going on. I'll learn more about all of that at the check up. Such small things vs the whole aspect of seeing, reading again, computer work with ease.
I need to call my dentist and tell him how much I love the cosmetic dentistry he did 1.5 years ago to which I had a tepid response. Guess I couldn't really appreciate the smile even with corrective glasses. And, I need to get a cosmetic make over now that I can see what I am doing!
I just love this. I'm bionic!

Finally Contacts that work
Now, that is over with the new hybrid contacts that I was fitted with at Dr. Lewis' Office. Â I can see more clearly and the contacts are more comfortable than ever.
Lorrie and Becky went way beyond the extra mile to make sure I was satisfied. Â I have spent several appointments trying to get the right pair. Â They even had the company representative in to get the right contacts for me and it finally paid off.
Thanks Lorrie and Becky

Patients
Many thanks to you and your marvelous team for giving me such well fitting, precise lenses. I knew it took a few adjustments but the third time was the trick. I never thought I'd be able to get rid of both my reading & distance glasses.
You and your group are warm & welcoming and most of all, patient. It has been a pleasure moving my care to your practice & if I find out the Surgeon General position opens up, I'll be delighted to promote you!
Best,

Remarkable
Upon entering the surgical room, I sat down at a slit lamp (microscope). The eye proved to be in great shape for surgery. After being situated comfortably on the table, there were two short procedures done. Of course, I was nervous, so I did deep breathing--Lamaze works great here. The refractive surgery specialist nurse Sue Bauer worked one-on-one with me. Sue has an impressive history of working with lasers, and I felt very confident in her ability. She counted off the seconds. I simply stared at the light, did my deep breathing, and concentrated on Sue counting down the seconds. There was no pain, simply a bit of discomfort. It was quick and easy!
Once I was seated back at the slit lamp, Dr. Lewis was able to tell me the eye had been corrected from 20/400 to 20/50, which was the predicted goal. The pictures on the wall were fairly clear. The post-op visit the next day at the office, confirmed the correction.
I returned two weeks later for a final check-up. Once seated at the auto-refractor, the nurse exclaimed, "Oh!" I quickly asked, "Is that a good 'Oh' or a bad 'Oh'?" She said, "Good!"
Dr. Lewis confirmed the good news with the exclamation, "Remarkable!" The eye had actually become better--from 20/50 to 20/30!
Two post-surgery comments:
1) If you aren't a large person and/or have a finicky stomach, I recommend asking Dr. Lewis or
the nurse about taking 1/2 - 1 tablet of the Diazepam. A half tablet was just enough for me
to feel calmer.
2) Use the shield they give you when sleeping! The tape isn't too terrible to get off your face,
and the shield is quite comfortable as you sleep. You'll rest better not worrying about
rubbing your eye accidentally.
My friends asked me why I waited so long to have this surgery. My reply was simple, "It took me years to find a physician I could trust, who came highly recommended by friends, and who impressed me with his background and compassion. I actually had a technician at an optical store across town tell me their customers said Dr. Lewis is the doctor that other doctors go to for their own surgery.
I'm so confident now in this fine surgeon that I'm actually considering having Dr. Lewis do an implant in my good eye, instead of waiting fifteen years or more for a cataract.
I rarely make recommendations; but, if you were a good friend of mine asking for one, I wouldn't hesitate to tell you, "You'll be in good hands!"

Excellent ReSULTS with ReSTOR
Dr. Lewis and the entire staff are great! The surgery was easy and fast. I had no pain and was seeing 20/20 for both reading and distance the next day. While no one looks forward to cataracts, this is the best possible outcome.
Thank you Dr. Lewis!!!!

Dr Lewis is the MAN!
It turns out that cataract surgery was the best path forward for me, but the Keratotomy was a complicating factor. Evidently, the Keratotomy weakens the eye, the eye will flex more, making lens selection more difficult and important.
I got the implant in my left eye last November, and the experience was as good as it could have been. I arrived with some fear about the outcome, and some apprehension of the procedure itself: would I be comfortable, would it be painful, would I be treated like an individual, etc. The procedure went quite well, very little discomfort, good feedback from the nurses and Dr L. I went home and took a nice nap and woke up with no discomfort, and great vision. The subsequent 24-Hour check up revealed my vision to be 20/20 in that eye.
60 days later I had the right eye fixed at his Cherry Creek office and the experience was a literal repeat of the first. AT the 24-hour follow-up visit, vision in that eye was about 20/30, but since that time the eye has improved and I am sure it is 20/20 although I have no metrics that would prove that.
I got what I wanted in all respects. My eyes are stable, vision is good, and I am enjoying my life as I did before the procedures were completed. Dr Lewis is an honest, straightforward, knowledgeable, caring, eye doctor, and he has a crackerjack staff.
I would recommend to others Dr Lewis without reservation. He calls it straight, tells you like it is, helps you make the decisions that are right for you, and does excellent work.

Fantastic Experience with Dr. Lewis and staff at Cherry Creek Eye
Getting LASIK eye surgery was something that I was interested in but had been too nervous about. Going to Dr. Lewis for my contact perscription is one of the best things I've done in my adult life. Dr. Lewis and the Cherry Creek Eye staff immediately impressed me during my initial appointment with their knowledge, patience, and genuine care for their work and for their patients. It was clear to me that this was an extremely professional and experienced office and that impression gave me the confidence to go through with the surgery.
I went ahead and scheduled a surgery appointment and the entire process, from the pre-op appointments - to surgery - to post-op appointments, was nothing short of exceptional.
Highlights for me:
- Knowledgeable, professional, curteous, and patient staff
- Dr. Lewis' resume and high LASIK surgery success rate
- High quality technology
- Dr. Lewis' presence throughout the whole process. My understanding is that with other centers, the surgeon may only be present for the surgery itself - not the pre and post-op appointments.
- The fact that I can wake up every morning with better than 20/20 vision - and am no longer limited by having to accomodate glasses or contacts. It's such an amazing feeling!
I am very proud to have been a patient of Dr. Lewis. I would recommend the Cherry Creek Center to family, friends, and anyone interested in getting top-notch LASIK eye surgery.
Thank you to Dr. Lewis and the Cherry Creek Eye staff for the amazing gift of sight!

Great results
I was warned that the first few days would be uncomfortable but had underestimated how bored I would be. I couldn't watch TV, couldn't read, couldn't go out in bright sun. That cleared up after a few days and my vision became nearly perfect. I have never had any problems. No halos, blurring, dry eyes, no discernable side-effects. My only regret is not doing it sooner.
Dr. Lewis is a wonderful doctor. He spends time with all his patients, surgical or not. He is personable, knowledgeable and seems very genuine. His staff has always treated me very well. No one in my family is allowed to see another eye doctor, and I recommend him to all my friends.

I had cataract surgery in March 2008 and my vision at the time of the post op. visit was 20/20 in both eyes.
Dr. Lewis and his staff take a personal approach to each person, I felt like they truly cared about not only my vision, but me as a person.
Initially I was scheduled to have surgery at another facility; however, it did not feel right as I was simply a number, would not even have the chance to meet the surgeon until I was "on the table" and I am so pleased that I made the decision to cancel that assembly line surgery.
Dr. Lewis and staff spent all the time I needed and wanted, I was not rushed and I can truly state without any hesitation, that I am completely satisfied with the result of my surgery and I urge anyone needing surgery to call Dr. Lewis and experience for yourself what I am talking about.

Alcon Toric Lens
My name is Dave and I had cataracts in both eyes. I also had severe astigmatism in both.
I went to see Dr. Lewis and he told me about the new Alcon Toric lenses , that would be able to correct my astigmatism and get me close to 20/20 without glasses. My eyesight before was about 20/400 in the left and 20/200 in right.
I went with the Toric lenses and have absolutely no regrets , my eyesight is 20/20 right eye and about 20/30 left. I do not need to use glasses to see , what a great feeling after wearing them for 40 years. If you are considering toric for astigmatism , i would highly recommend them , they are more money but it is a lifelong investment.
Good Luck and God Bless

THE WIZARD OF EYEZ
His name is Dr. Stuart Lewis.
Since I had never felt comfortable with the assembly-line feel and impersonal approach of another eye center, I was open to finding another physician for my cataract surgery. When I found Dr. Lewis on the Internet, I was most impressed by the information on his site, as well as the many patient testimonials. An appointment was made and I fully expected that Dr. Lewis would be one of a number of physicians I would visit before making my final decision. However, that was not to be. In fact, that appointment was one of the better decisions of my life.
At our first meeting with Dr, Lewis, my husband and I liked his calm, straightforward and personable manner, but what clinched the deal was when he used the word "picky" to describe the way he worked. He told us of his regard for detail and thoroughness and full utilization of his state-of- the-art equipment and the fact that he insists on a hands-on approach throughout the whole process.
My husband, who is a pilot and extremely safety-conscious and detail-oriented, as am I, looked at me in silent understanding at this point of the consultation, as I informed Dr. Lewis that I wanted him to be my surgeon.
Not only has he chosen his staff well, a reflection of the man I believe, the atmosphere in Dr. Lewis' office is warm, cheerful and welcoming from the moment you step through the front door. Questions and dialog are not only encouraged, but received with genuine caring and courtesy.
In no time at all, arrangements were made and I am now several weeks into recovery. The surgery went without a hitch and the operating room staff were pleasant and efficient. Dr. Lewis' skill and expertise have given me the miracle that is my 20/20 vision, after many years of imperfect sight with contact lenses and glasses.
If you are looking for an eye surgeon - or feel dissatisfied in any way with your current eye doctor - I urge you to give Dr. Lewis' office a call. You won't be sorry.
Dr. Stuart Lewis truly is The Wizard of Eyez.

LASIK review
I had met Dr. Lewis a few times before I decided to have surgery and I became convinced that cares about his patients and is a skilled physician. I respect that he has been educated at prestigious universities, however I did not rely on it for my assessment. It was his thoroughness, dedication and attentiveness that made me feel comfortable with him as my surgeon. I did not feel like I was in an assembly line and that nothing would be left to chance. My impression of Dr. Lewis was strengthened when I assessed his team. Since they were caring, open and genuine, I knew that he had taken the same care to hire them as he took his profession.
From these visits, I was completely comfortable immediately before, during and after the surgery. I was confident in his abilities and character. The surgery was a success and I can now see 20/20 without glasses. My eyes were dry after the surgery for approximately two months. Now they are noticeably better and I think they are less dry than before the surgery.
I have recommended Dr. Lewis to my wife, friends and co-workers. I recommend him to anyone that takes their vision seriously, as he is a consummate professional. I have no regrets.

Toric IOLs
The left eye surgery was done two weeks ago and the right eye was done one week ago yesterday. As reported by others, from the patient's point of view, the procedure was a breeze with just one day away from my work for each eye. Reasonable vision was available immediately and vision was very good after the dilation subsided, one day after surgery. Today my vision is 20/20 in both eyes with the left corrected for near vision and the right for distance. I had experimented with monovision using contacts before my final decision; the real thing is proving to be an easier adaptation.
Key features of my new situation:
* No need for glasses although I will get a set of readers made that may be useful for extended close work.
* My eyes are significantly less sensitive to light.
* Color brightness, contrast and acuity are quite noticeably improved.
* Within a day of the left eye surgery, my distance vision with the left eye (corrected for near vision) was nearly as good as my right eye corrected with glasses.

Dear Dr. Lewis
One of the strange unanticipated advantages is that I can now see to type on my computer without glasses. I notice, obviously, a great improvement in my ability to drive and see at longer distances. Thanks for your wonderful work.
I was greatly impressed by all of your staff members. It was almost fun to come to your office for service. That's the first time that I have ever said that following medical office visits. Tell them that I really appreciated their support and kindness.
Have a Great summer everyone as I think I will because of my better eyesight.

Lasik from Japan
I just wanted to write a note thanking you for all that you've done for me. It's been more than a month since I've had my surgery and the results have been amazing. What a strange feeling it was realizing that I hadn't left my contacts in when I woke up in the mornings! I had no problem adjusting though, and now I feel as though I never wore glasses at all. So many doors are now open to me that before were closed because of my vision impairment. What really made my experience all the more worth-while was the professionalism, courtesy and genuine interest that you all showed me during my visits to your clinic and the surgery center. You were especially helpful in answering all of my questions and concerns, even though I was overseas! Even though I am in the military, and laser surgery is available and free, I am grateful that I found your clinic and have no regrets with my choice.
I would recommend your services to anyone interested in eye surgery. If you were to show them half the same thoughtfulness and care you have shown me, they would still be in excellent hands! Thanks again!

This is amazing!
I spoke with a friend who'd had the original blade-style surgery 20 years ago, and she said it was about the best thing she'd ever done, and knew I would feel the same.
The staff and professionals at Cherry Creek Eye Physicians and Clarity Laser Vision Center were so knowledgeable, friendly, supportive and helpful. The procedure was simple; no pain. And fast! I already see very well, both up close and from a distance, and it's only supposed to get better over the next few weeks! I can't believe I can see well without glasses! What a hoot!! Thanks, Dr. Lewis and everybody!

Care and Concern
When I called your office yesterday, I couldn't even say I was a regular patient of yours. Nor did I plead or cajole. I merely said I had crusting on my eye lids and that I was leaving for a month. The woman who took my call told me to come in today at 11:45. When I knew snow would slow a few people, I called at 8:30 to see if I could come in earlier. "of course," she said.
You saw me within fifteen minutes. With others waiting to see you, I felt as if you had all the time I needed.
I have given this sentence a great deal of thought and know it to be true. "In my 68 years, I have never experienced the care and concern that I received today."
I look forward to a long relationship!

"Waited Long Enough"
At my annual check ups Dr. Lewis would always go over all the in's and out's with me in the most professional and courteous manner possible, but maybe it was fear, maybe just apprehension but I never could pull the trigger.
About 7 weeks ago I was in Dr Lewis's office and there were 3 of his patients that had LASIK surgery the previous day. After much discussion and every question you can imagine and the fact that the worst eyesight of the 3 of them was 20-20..... I took it a a sign that my time has come.
Between the professionalism of Dr. Lewis and his entire staff and the fact that they are just so sincere and nice, the cutting edge technology of my IntraLASIK surgery was absolutely a perfect experience.
At 54 years old my eyesight was 20-15 the day after surgery. As a matter of fact, my 27 year old son flew in from Scottsdale last week and also had the IntraLASIK procedure done by Dr. Lewis. Here is a young man that has had to wear glasses/contacts lens since the 4th grade. He called a little while ago, 3 days after surgery and believes his sight is sharper that the 20-15 he tested the day after surgery!!
I know this is a bit long winded but you talk about a life changer!!!
Thank you Dr. Lewis and your wonderful staff. I am glad I waited but I am also sure I waited just long enough!

Ten Years After
I had worn glasses since I was 6 and I had been told I was legally blind and had a strong astigmatism -- although with contacts or glasses I could see fine. I am an athlete -- skier, mountain biker, swimmer, tennis player -- and good vision is critical to enjoying these sports. Contacts were a hassle and my glasses looked like Coke bottles. I had looked into RK surgery years before and decided to wait.
Dr Lewis was recommended to me by several people I knew who had successful LASIK surgery performed by him. I decided to check it out -- even though I had pretty much already decided to wait a few years until the technology improved. Dr Lewis informed me that my eyes were at the limit of what LASIK could correct, and further I had thin corneas. What that meant was that we had one shot at the surgery -- no re-dos would be possible. In spite of all this, Dr Lewis inspired confidence in me and we scheduled the surgery. I elected to do both eyes at once. My mom questioned my decision, but I told her 'it just felt right'.
It took all of about 5 minutes and when I walked out of the office I could see perfectly. Later that day I went for a run -- probably not recommended, but no problems. Two days later, I went skiing -- definitely not recommended, but I was careful and again, no problems. In fact, I had literally no discomfort or vision problems AT ALL after my LASIK. I went from legally blind to 20/20 in minutes! As I said, it changed my life -- no contacts, no glasses, all my sports improved and camping got a lot easier!
Ten Years later, I wear drugstore 'readers' (I AM 56, after all!) when I work on my computer or read in low light. My vision is still crisp and clear. Every year when I have my annual visit to Dr Lewis, he checks my vision and remarks "damn, I'm good!" -- I couldn't agree more.

Thanks to the Dr. Lewis, the Cherry Creek Eye Center and Dr. Douglas Holmes who saved my retina in the first place. You are the greatest.
